After many months undertaking property inspections to find a suitable new building, Lou’s Place is excited to announce that it will be moving to a bigger home by the end of 2021.
Lou’s Place is Sydney’s only community-based day-time refugee for women. It currently serves on a busy day around 60 women, however, as a result of its successful capital campaign and through the hard work of Lou’s Place Capital Committee, the refugee has found a new location and will be moving to Redfern which will allow it to double the number of women it can support. Lou’s Place provides meals, legal aid, counselling and educational programs.
The majority of the funds raised for the new property has come through private donors, including a $250,000 donation from the Ottomin Foundation.
“The new premises gives us a lot more opportunity to be available to more people. We’ll have the space to be able to have case management, activities, lunch all at the same time, it’s going to be transformative for our service” Lou’s Place general manager, Nicole Yade said.
