Lou’s Place unites against domestic violence: No More Empty Shoes

At Martin Place, in the heart of the Sydney CBD, on 26 November 2024, Lou’s Place in partnership with the NSW Vigil Collective held a poignant vigil to honour and remember each woman who has lost her life to domestic and family violence in 2024.

The Unite Against Violence: No More Empty Shoes vigil was a sobering reminder that violence against women still ripples through the community and must be addressed urgently. One death due to family, domestic and sexual violence is one too many.

With the goal to raise community awareness and broaden conversations, the one-day installation featured pairs of shoes – each pair representing a woman who has lost her life to domestic or family violence in Australia. On average, one woman is killed every four days by an intimate partner in Australia with intimate partner violence contributing more death, disability and illness in women aged 25-44 than any other preventable risk factor. As a longtime supporter of Lou’s Place, the Ottomin Foundation acknowledges everyone involved for their shared commitment in remembering these women and amplifying this important cause
