JDRF is the leading supporter of Type 1 diabetes (T1D) research in the world. The Foundation was founded in the USA more than 50 years ago and in Australia from 1972. Its vision is for a world without Type 1 diabetes whilst making the lives of people with T1D easier, safer and healthier until that happens.
In 2023, the Ottomin Foundation announced its commitment of $250,000 over five years to JDRF Australia. The Ottomin Foundation will specifically contribute to the funding of the Type 1 screening program. The Type 1 screening program is available for children and young adults with a family history of Type 1 diabetes and involves the testing for islet autoantibodies that are known to be highly sensitive and specific markers of Type 1 diabetes.
